Breakfast Of Champions (serves 1)

For the world's most indulgent breakfast (it's a lot better than it sounds, honest!)

INGREDIENTS
2 slices of white bread
Butter
Strawberry jam
Crunchy peanut butter
One banana, sliced

METHOD
Stick the bread in a toaster, then butter generously. Dollop generous spreadings of jam and peanut butter onto one slice before adding the sliced banana. Top with the second slice of bread and press down firmly. Mmmmm.

French Onion Soup (Serves 1)

Dead simple, dead cheap and - most importantly - dead tasty!

INGREDIENTS
250g onions
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tbsp cooking oil
250 ml chicken/vegetable stock

METHOD
Heat the oil and sweat the onions and garlic for half an hour. Add the stock, bring to the boil and simmer for twenty minutes. You can serve with bread or why not try throwing in a handful of tiny pasta pieces straight after adding the stock? It'll be like a posh Pot Noodle!

Scrambled Eggs With A Twist (serves 1)

Jazz up the traditional student favourite.

INGREDIENTS
2-3 eggs
Knob of butter
Splash of milk
25g salami, torn up into small pieces
Splash of Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper

METHOD
Crack your eggs and stick them in a pan with the butter and milk. Heat on moderate heat whilst stirring. As it cooks add the salt and pepper and salami, then the Worcestershire sauce just before serving. Best served with some toast.

Simple Pasta Sauce (serves 4)

Students live on pasta, but this is a cheap way of brightening it up. Always buying packaged herbs can be expensive, so get a pot of basil and grow it on your window ledge.

INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 onions, diced
3 garlic cloves, crushed
2 x 400g chopped tomatoes
A pinch of dried chilli flakes
2 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 tsp sugar
1 handful of basil leaves
salt and pepper

METHOD
Heat the oil, and soften the onion and garlic. Then add the tomatoes, chilli flakes, balsamic and sugar. Simmer for half an hour, then add the basil, salt and pepper. This is your sauce, now add it to cooked pasta with a bit of grated cheese.

Barbados Cream (serves 4)

The easiest pudding in the world - just don't tell anyone how simple it is or they won't be so impressed!

INGREDIENTS
125g double cream
250g natural yoghurt
4 tablespoons of soft brown sugar

METHOD
Whip the cream, then stir in the yoghurt. Spoon into four serving dishes, sprinkle a tablespoon of brown sugar on each and cover with cling-film. Leave overnight in the fridge and they'll be ready to serve! For added crunch, sprinkle a little extra sugar on top before serving. Oh, and maybe invent a less cheesy name for it!
